wow, that 2nd to last is from WWII

  2. Mr Tumnus says:

Actually, It’s post War. It’s a Sterling, not a Sten. It was introduced in 1953. The Pistol, on the other hand, is a Browning Hi-Power, which was introduced in 1935. That particular gun probably isn’t that old, however.

  3. Konraden says:

None of those guns could be solid gold. It would simply not have the strength. Gold-plated I can see, solid-gold not so much.

  4. Anonymous says:

    @ Konraden

The idea of the gold guns is for looks, not to shoot. They are solid gold, but were not produced by Saddam to be used in battle.

  5. D says:

There is NO way those are gold. Those guys are holding them like they are normal guns, and solid gold guns would weigh too much for them to do that.

  6. John Connor says:

where are these guns now…who is in possession of these weapons…us or iraq

  7. Mike says:

I saw these in 2003. A friend of mine got a 2 Dragonov magazines from one of the Cashes. They were not solid gold but gold plated and they were fully functional. I think the Govt of Iraq is is possession of them now. The Sten/Sterling was an awesome weapon. We captured one and I got to shoot it often (Later in 2007-2008 not gold-plated). Such a sweet weapon…

The gold is solid gold alloy, the silver is solid silver, the value is priceless. –> Soldig gold alloy –> alloy

  9. Jeff says:

    @ D

for the sake of realism and general cost reduction, they most likely aren’t solid gold all the way through, so they probably aren’t terribly heavy

  10. japowlo says:

    Saddam was 14th Prestige?

  11. Gold guns would weight too much and It would be a waste to fire those gold guns. I think they are only made for show.

  12. no says:

this is all horse shit, some look photoshopped stop gawking at fake things people be realistic

  13. mike says:

“The gold is solid gold alloy”
No it isnt. They are mostly normal AK-47s gold plated in 23.5 karat gold, hardened with cobalt. I know this because I plated quite a few of them in the late 1980s, when I worked for Levertech in Eccles. We got the job by being the best gold platers in England.
Some of the guns were gold-plated twice in fact, once by Saddam, and once after they were confiscated by the Lancashire Regiment in Bury. They came back to us via a jeweller we did occasional work for after Gulf war 2. His son was a major. I recognized our gold plate. Some of the guns were done in a pitiful far eastern soft electronics gold, which while pure was much too soft for the job. It rubbed off too easily

  14. Chris says:

Look. ALLOY means multiple metals are combined. That obviously means NOT solid gold. Copper and tin make bronze. Copper and zinc make brass. Steel is an alloy. It’s iron and carbon. Get it?

Solid gold is 24 karats. 14 karat gold is 14 parts gold, 10 parts alloy. 18 parts gold and 6 parts alloy makes 18 karat gold. Gold that is mixed with any other metal becomes an alloy.

  15. Ben says:

Thank you Chris. All those inane comments were intolerable. I’m glad i read all the comments and didn’t repost. These weapons are awesome.

  16. trashcanman says:

What is the gun in the 4th picture from the top? I’m usually pretty good at ID’ing old guns but I’ve never seen that one.

  17. somebody says:

only the OUTSIDE is gold, the inside is normal. Otherwise it would be WAY too heavy.

  18. Zachary says:

Most of them are in US possession 3rd ID fort stewart museum has them in there on display

  19. Nurseslabs says:

Those are beautiful guns! Its like they are real life RPG-type guns.

  20. billybob says:

I saw the sterling first hand during a photo op with the unit I was working with back in 07-08. had a whole closet full of weapons we confiscated back then, that one stood out for obvious reasons.

  21. Jeremy says:

Over there it’s a form of bragging rights. When I was in 3rd LAR we had, on our honor wall, a couple golden AKs the company had taken (back in Desert Storm LONG before I was in, since I was about 10 when DS happened) off some Iraqi Colonels or warlords or something.

  22. chacho says:

thats not a sten its a type 100 vietnam gun

  23. Blair says:

Does nobody read the comments before posting their own stupid uneducated comment? Chris is trying to explain what an alloy is, it is not pure solid gold but gold mixed with another metal so it will not be as heavy!

  24. SoCa says:

It’s solid gold alloy, alloy means it has been mixed with another metal to increase certain properties. Here I imagine for durability. So those who say solid gold, please read closer.

  25. Dexx says:

These guns were donated to museums by the US military:
